I own a 90' Jeep XJ Cherokee. Most of the problems it had were fixed it later model years, and i think if i had to pick any year XJ. It would be a 96. Some other things about it, while fuel economy may not be good on a literal box, it is lighter than todays mid to large sedans, and its incredible simplicity and ruggedness is something no modern jeeps can rival.

it should go without saying that the EPA is doing this because of decades of lobbying by automobile manufacturers. The profit margins on larger, higher end vehicles are bigger because they were able to successfully exempt larger vehicles from regulations.

gimme a lil cab-over ktruck. give it to me. give me that 650cc engine. gimme gimme gimme. limit it's max speed to 70kmph for all I care, I just want that flat bed, that low price point, that efficient engine, those fold-down sides on the bed, the tiny little baby wheels so small they don't even need to intrude on the bed at all. make cars small, make em cheap. I don't want comfortable, I want affordable. I want to own, at most, half as much car as I currently do, by weight, by volume, by purchase price, by gas costs, and by insurance premium. give me a three-cylinder engine that makes, like, 50hp on a good day. I don't care; when will I ever need more than that, anyways? I'd rather own a much smaller, cheaper car, and save money to use elsewhere in my life.....

I remember when it came out and everything the video says about how people felt about it is true, it was absolutely astounding that humans could build such a thing. I've always loved it, I like the looks and respect the performance, and I like grand tourers in general. As for the price, well I guess I'm mostly just glad there are people willing and able to pay for things like this, because otherwise they wouldn't exist.

Just a quick note, Elon's point about regenerative breaking makes complete sense, regenerative breaking is a thing you should 100% research, it's already being used in many vehicles and does indeed infinitely reduce breakpad usage. This man's a vaporware conman seller, but the way he sells you shit is by saying some truth mixed in with a ton of inflated goals, and utterly delusional deadlines and price tags.

I think the cybertruck is the first vehicle to drop the bullshit and come out and say "this car is designed as a weapon, so when you decimate a family van on the way to your 9-5 because you were texting and driving, you behead the kids instead of just crushing them to death". It's horrifying. The entire ford line of toy trucks are designed incredibly dangerously but good god at least they pretend like they aren't pedestrian mulchers. It's fucking terrifying and I really worry about other companies seeing this, seeing the US govt doing nothing to ban these from our roads, and going "welp, i guess we can just go ham with murder machines now"

8:29 credibility shaky man… regenerative braking harvests energy to recharge the battery by using motor torque vs brake pads. “As soon as the motor overcomes the battery it inverts the current direction and starts feeding current into the battery, while developing a counter torque that acts as a brake. This phase is called regeneration (recharging of the battery.” Do more research before making a dunk piece. :/

My main problem with electric cars is that in spite of the concept itself being promising, the manufacturers don't treat them like actual cars - more like fancy gizmos for people obsessed with futurism, made as "technologically advanced" as it's possible even if it doesn't make any sense. You know what's a real futuristic car? Toyota Supra Mk.3 - sleek, well-designed, reliable as hell and with driver-oriented cockpit; just put an electric engine into it and the market will explode. Same may be said about most of the cars from the 80-90s, because that's when automobile engineering peaked. The point is: electric cars are sh*tty not because gas ones are better, it's because they're engineered purely by morons who don't know what a high-quality car must look like. Regular cars seem better only because not all legacy of the educated engineeres was sent down the sink, so some good traits are still there. But it's all slowly dying. Stupid electric cars are only the beginning - all the industry is doomed if there won't be a new generation of practice-oriented engineeres.

I think the peak was the early 2000s before biodegradable materials became required and too many computers took over, but also before cars got to big and heavy. But my personal taste is for the older cars. I currently have 1985, 1988, 1993, 1994, 2006, and 2014 cars, and the 4 older ones are WAY cooler than the newest one.
